Treasury of Arts Activities for Older People – call for contributions

Small Things are working to produce a second treasury of arts activities for older people as a practical guide for anybody who supports older people professionally or as a volunteer.

Working with The Baring Foundation and The Rayne Foundation, Small Things are working to produce a second treasury of arts activities for older people.  Building on the success of the first treasury this new publication will be a practical guide for anybody who supports older people professionally or as a volunteer who would like to explore the ways that they can take a creative approach and use the arts in their work. In a simple, accessible style it will offer contextual tips and suggestions on this work, alongside a wide range of activities / exercises across art forms and suggestions on how to develop this work further.

As part of this, they are inviting people to submit an exercise or activity to be considered for inclusion.

Each activity that is included will be presented in a “recipe” type form with the aspiration that readers will be able to try the activity themselves. Activities can focus on a single art form or may tap into a range of different ones, and should be low cost or free to run. Submissions for this treasury must come from older people’s organisations, practitioners, settings…etc…. OR a partnership between an older people’s organisation and an artist of arts organisation. For example a care home activity co-ordinator could submit an activity, or a partnership between an artist and a dementia café could share something that they have done together.

If you were interested in getting involved, Small things ask you to send the following in the first instance:

  • A brief paragraph outlining the activity / exercise
  • An idea of how long the activity took to run – could be 10 minutes! Or a week!
  • Suitability eg dementia friendly, large groups, individuals…etc…
  • Context eg care homes
  • Atmosphere eg relaxing, energetic, focus
  • If your activity is chosen for inclusion you will then be asked to provide step by step instructions for running the activity, and a high resolution photo to support it which has consent for use.

If your activity is chosen for inclusion you will then be asked to provide step by step instructions for running the activity, and a high resolution photo to support it which has consent for use.

Deadline: Tuesday 22nd December 2020

Submissions should be sent to info(at)smallthings.org.uk as well as any requirements for additional information.
