GPS Embroidery: acts of (in) visible repair

An immersive GPS walking performance for 6 people at a time, guided by a site-specific soundtrack

About this event

Times: 10:30, 1:30, 3:30

You don’t need to be able to sew, just to identify as female or non-binary, and have a sense of curiosity and play. Walking backwards, forwards and round in circles, together participants will embellish the landscape in a choreography of stitches which will be invisible to anybody watching until they are shared online afterwards.

University of Exeter have been working outdoors with groups across Exeter, making connections between each place, its biodiversity, and ourselves. Expect to hear local voices and sounds floating downriver. Expect a confluence of the faraway and the ground beneath your feet. Expect to be socially distant and physically present in new and unexpected ways.

GPS embroidery turns traditional location for women’s artmaking inside out, using simple tracking techniques to explore our everyday environment, and making human and nonhuman networks of care and repair visible for all to see.
