Preventive Health 2010

Outside sw, London - 30 Jun 2010

GovNet's 3rd Annual Preventive Health conference. This year's conference, will discuss a variety of subjects ranging from the government's NHS Health Check Programme and Cancer Reform Strategy to the importance of immunisation.

This year's conference, which was written in conjunction with Professor Stephen Field, Chairman, Royal College of GPs, will discuss a variety of subjects ranging from the government's NHS Health Check Programme and Cancer Reform Strategy to the importance of immunisation.

In June 2009, the Health Secretary Andy Burnham stated that prevention was to become one of four key priorities that will form the basis of NHS policy, alongside quality, productivity and innovation. He stated that the prevention agenda was to become 'the long term insurance policy' of the NHS. In pursuit of this goal, the government has embarked on the £372 million Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives Programme to tackle obesity, the Cancer Reform Strategy and will soon be launching a new National Liver Strategy. To talk about these and other important issues we have invited the Secretary of State for Health, Rt. Hon Andy Burnham MP, to deliver a keynote address.

By far and away the biggest preventable killer in the UK is Coronary heart disease. More than 1.4 million people in England suffer from angina and 275,000 people have heart attacks annually. To deal with this public health crisis, the government has brought in the NHS Health Checks Programme and the Act F.A.S.T campaign.

At this year's conference we look forward to a confirmed address from Professor Roger Boyle, National Director of Heart Disease and Stroke, on this highly important and relevant issue. At Preventive Health 2010, we also look forward to hearing from confirmed speakers Kathy Elliott, National Lead for Prevention, Early Diagnosis and Inequalities, National Cancer Action Team, and Dr. Mike Kelly, Director of the Public Health Excellence Centre, NICE, who will be sharing their opinions and experiences across a variety of preventive health areas.

Join us in June as 350 health and local government professionals join a plenary of central and local government speakers to debate and discuss how best the UK can encourage people to live healthier lives and tackle some of the most critical public health issues of the 21st Century. This conference must not be missed. For further information - please see the conference programme at: www.govnet.co.uk/preventive/programme.html
