Scientists discover link between singing and stroke recovery
As anyone who sings in a group or choir will tell you, the physical and mental benefits of singing are plentiful. Now scientists have discovered that teaching stroke patients to sing can actually help ‘rewire’ their brains. By singing, patients use a different area of the brain from the one used during ordinary speech.
Dr Nina Kraus, a neuroscientist from Northwestern University in Chicago, says that insights into how the brain responds to music also provide evidence that musical training is an important part of children's education.
