Young Royal Devon & Exeter patients get taste of life on ward from new film
Young RD&E patients have helped make a short film to reassure and inform others about what hospital life is like on Bramble Ward.
The film was created thanks to a partnership between Exeter Health Care Arts, Exeter Scrap Store and award-winning animation company Animation Therapy.
Patients in the care of the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital and attending the hospital school learnt animation techniques and shared their views and concerns about the topics that should be covered in the film.
Project lead Stephen Pettet-Smith of Exeter Health Care Arts said: “We are delighted with what has been achieved. There are animation patient and staff characters set against a film of the actual ward environment so that before children and young people come in for their treatment they can see what the place looks like and hopefully be reassured that everyone here is friendly and will look after them well.
“It’s been a great team and creative effort. We hope that the success of this project can help secure further funds to provide similar ways of explaining hospital care for specific conditions or illnesses."
Funding for this project was originally initiated by Scrap Store through donations from its customers and users to celebrate the life of one of its volunteers, Maureen Dudman and her husband John. Additional funding was contributed from the Bramble Ward charitable fund.
